How can we advocate for a mentally healthier approach in the film industry?
Aimed at filmmakers who have been involved in making work exploring mental health, this small group session led by Film in Mind founder and psychotherapist Rebecca Day invites you to engage with practical, ethical and intellectual questions about how to integrate mental health considerations into the filmmaking process, and reflect on your own experiences making your films.
Rebecca Day is a qualified psychotherapist, clinical supervisor and ethics & care consultant. She founded Film In Mind, a therapy service for filmmakers, in 2018 to address mental health in the film industry. She combines her therapeutic skills with over a decade of experience as a documentary producer to offer consultancies, workshops and therapeutic support to filmmakers working in difficult situations and with vulnerable people.
In 2024, she developed Film Supervision, a new model of support that provides space for filmmakers to address ethics and care of crew, participants and self in their filmmaking practice. The first cohort of Ethics and Care consultants were trained in 2024 and have joined the Film In Mind Team.
She is also a co-founder of DocuMentality, an international research project culminating in ‘The Price of Passion report in 2023. She frequently mentors on labs such as IDFA Project Space and Circle Doc Accelerator Lab and is invited as a guest speaker and mentor on panels and at workshops at events such as IDFA, CPH:DOX, EFM Toolbox, Sheffield DocFest, Docs by the Sea and WIFTV.
