Pianodrome Bruntsfield
St. Oswald's Centre, 41 Montpellier Park, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, EH10 4NB

Information

This programme explores the musical landscape that unfolded during the Hundred Years’ War (1337–1453), a deadly conflict that caused devastation and reshaped the political and cultural life of Burgundy, the Flemish region, and England.

Amid shifting borders and rival dynasties, music became a powerful tool of identity and control. We focus on the three institutions which shaped the progress of this long and deadly war: the military, the church, and the court, and the image each projected through music.

We feature some of the most important medieval composers from England, France, and Burgandy, including John Dunstable, Guillaume de Machuat, and Gilles Binchois. The result is an evocative and thrilling combination of the little-known music of this period.

Héloïse Bernard – Soprano
Eva Morea Rodriguez – Portative Organ
Eric Thomas – Plectrum Lute
