Quantum Noise

Information

Delve deeper into the fascinating quantum realm on Saturday morning with some free workshop activities and accessible quantum musical improvisation, with opportunities for discussion and Q&A. Here's your chance to ask the questions that Saturday evening left you with, to play around with some sounds to represent quantum ideas, and to help us develop this project further. We will play an electron, an observation, an interaction, waves and particles and then, (if we feel ready) we might play 'Let's get Entangled!'

Participation will be optional but both the science and the music will be low-pressured and accessible for experts or newbies.

Activities will be led by Steve Summers (artist, science communicator and Producer of NoisyToys.org). Questions about quantum physics will be handled by Erika Anderson (Professor of Physics at Heriot-Watt University).

About the Performers:

Erika Andersson started piano lessons at the age of 7, followed by guitar and violin. In parallel, she developed an interest in mathematics and science and ended up studying both science and music in her home country, Finland. After a PhD in Theoretical Physics at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, she came to Scotland in 2001 on a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship. She is currently a Professor of Physics at Heriot-Watt University.

Steve Summers is an artist and science communicator, producing installations, shows and workshops through Noisy Toys since 2017. For more, see https://noisytoys.org.

Pianodrome Bruntsfield is at The St.Oswald's Center at 41 Montpelier Park, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh EH10 4NB, at the corner of Montpelier and Montpelier Park and next to the Bruntsfield primary school.

The Pianodrome is based in a 130 year old ex church building, and currently the space is unheated, so please remember to wrap up warm.

Free Entry, By Donation We think it's important to offer free music and culture to all. The acts for these shows are always paid and we rely on donations on the day to maintain our free shows. Suggested donation is £10, though any amount is welcome! :)

Accessibility
There is ramped access to the main hall of the Pianodrome on Montpelier (the entrance to the South-East of the building ///circle.item.tidy).

We have an accessible toilet and space for wheelchairs. Most of our performances are relaxed performances. If you have any access requirements please feel free to email us at boxoffice@pianodrome.org.

You do not need a ticket for babies, but if your child is likely to take space in a seat then please book them a ticket.
