Free local music, hands-on activities & stalls. Drop in to discover the wonderful 11 year history of the Fountainbridge Meanwhile Site. Share your experiences of the site with us on the day - bring stories, photos and artefacts.
The Fountainbridge Meanwhile site has given free space to local community projects for 11 years and has been a rare successful collaboration between local activists, the City of Edinburgh Council and developers. The site has incubated many projects and given opportunities for people living nearby to utilise the space cleared when the local rubber works and brewery were demolished, in the 'meanwhile' before works begin.
This incredible project has fostered initiatives such as the Grove community gardens, the Forge Makerspace, Rhyze Mushrooms, the Tollcross Wikihouse build, the Edinburgh Scrapstore and given space to many local artists and creatives to try out their wacky ideas.
The early beginnings of our very own Pianodrome can be traced back to the site too, with our initial experimental structures being built there. Now that we are back in the neighbourhood we are delighted to celebrate this wonderful initiative which has brought so much life and colour to the area, and given people space to break out of their day-to-day lives and meet other folk who live nearby.
