As part of Brilliant Corners - a festival of jazz in Belfast
Niels Broos (Keys) Jamie Peet (Drums)
Niels Broos and Jamie Peet are two child prodigy musicians, hailing from The Netherlands. Niels started playing keys at the age of four, and Jamie was behind the drumkit at 5. Both have their signature sound and style, which have forged them as two of the most influential musicians in Europe today. The duo was brought together on stage for the first time by Mondriaan Jazz Festival in 2017. Since then, Niels and Jamie have performed globally to rave reviews.
The music is totally improvised, with melodic hooks and an original analogue approach, fusing Jazz, Hip-hop, and Electronics. Peet’s extraordinarily inventive drum rhythms and the explosive electronic keyboard playing of Broos completely envelop the audience. Their symbiotic understanding of each other makes for music that is so cohesive, enjoyable and polished, it’s hard to believe it has been created in the moment. At times you’ll be reminded of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and Flying Lotus. We can’t wait to welcome this remarkable duo to Belfast for the very first time.
Virtuoso performer, multi-instrumentalist and true sound innovator Kaidi Tatham – once nicknamed the “Herbie Hancock of the United Kingdom” by Benji B – teams up with Bounce Culture and BBC Radio Ulster’s Kwame Daniels for a no holds barred sparring session. Expect a healthy mix of jazz, soul, afrobeat, funk and disco. Bring your dancing shoes!
