We are delighted to welcome Chamber Choir Ireland back to Belfast for and evening of sacred medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque choral music. Otherworldly and deeply moving, we love it when Chamber Choir Ireland pay us a visit!
THIS PERFORMANCE WILL BEGIN AT 6.30PM SHARP
Chamber Choir Ireland welcomes Martina Batič, Chief Conductor of the Danish National Vocal Ensemble, as Guest Director for Echoes of the Divine.
This programme of sacred medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque choral music centres around Alessandro Scarlatti's Missa ad usum cappella pontificale. Dedicated to Pope Innocent XIII in 1721, this mass is an excellent example of sixteenth-century papal tradition and the strict musical conventions of the Papal Chapel at that time.
The programme also includes Hildegard von Bingen's glorious Marian hymn, Ave generosa; John Dunstable's lush setting of the first Song of Songs, Quam pulchra es; Josquin des Prez's Ave Maria, virgo serena, one of the most famous motets of the High Renaissance, celebrating the five Marian feasts; Palestrina's setting of Lucis, creator optime, a hymn attributed to Pope Gregory (from whom Gregorian Chant takes its name); Tomás Luis de Victoria's motet for All Saints, O quam gloriosum est regnum, famed for its verve and drive; and Jacobus Gallus' smooth-flowing setting of the Lord's prayer.
