Lenny Chen
15 year old, Lenny Chen is from Boyle and is currently studying at the
Junior Conservatoire of TU Dublin under Shirin Goudarzi-Tobin. A passionate and dedicated musician, he has distinguished himself in competitions and performances both nationally and internationally.

In 2023, Lenny made his concerto debut at Music Fest Perugia in Italy, performing with the Orchestra delle Cento Città under the baton of Marius Stravinsky. In the summer of 2025, he reached another milestone with his notable performance at the renowned Van Cliburn Hall in Fort Worth. In 2026, he was selected to participate in the Young Pianists Programme of the
Dublin International Piano Competition.

Sligo Baroque Orchestra
SBO was founded over thirty years ago by its musical director Rod Alston. The orchestra has always and currently leads a very active existence, involved in more than ten performances each year, often unearthing almost forgotten composers of the Baroque period.

Recently SBO have performed a movement of Beethoven's piano concerto no.1 with the talented young pianist Lenny Chen as part of an Informal Music Afternoon in The Model, Sligo. So while “Baroque” is in the name, the orchestra is not limited to Baroque music by any means.

Over the last couple of years they have played a lot of music by female composers who had been all but forgotten before the digitalisation of sheet music. SBO also regularly collaborates with traditional musicians such as fiddler Mossie Martin, accordionist Martin Tourish, uillean piper Tim Doyle, the international folk orchestra NoCrows, and a few years ago with
Congolese Band “Tropicana Musica”.

It is a hybrid sort of ensemble, with a core of professional musicians, but also including students and amateurs. The orchestra has between 12 and 20 members at any given time, including strings, wind and harpsichord. Students of the local music school “Sligo Academy of Music” feature
regularly at concerts.
